Thursday are for the Real WeHo'ers
New party on Thursdays try to take the Abbey back from before it blew up. Mostly successful after you force your friends to come with you to the DJ booth and start the dance party.
We all love it and hate it. With love!
Been going to the Abbey since it was a small, narrow coffee shop and bar. Has been fun to watch the changes and see what a beautiful bar it has become. My friends and I have all gone through phases where we loved it, and phases where we hated it. Like any gay bar that starts to get str8 attention, we always hate when our space is 'invaded'. But it also depends when you go. We pretty much wouldn't be caught there on a Fri or Sat night, would never wait in line for this place. At the moment we love it best on nice days between 4 and 6. Can also take advantage of the happy hour specials! Food is not amazing, but good. Wouldn't go out for dinner there specifically, but if you are wanting a cocktail and some eye entertainment, lunch/dinner/bar food is good here. Coffee/dessert bar is good. Out of towners love it, so if you have a visitor, it's a must go. Some say it's their favorite bar ever, even yes, the str8 ones.
had dinner here
well if you're going for dinner, I wouldn't recommend it. The service, while friendly, was very very very slow. For dancing and drinks, definitely check it out!
WeHo Mainstay
Ovet the past 20 years, the Abbey has grown from a neighborhood coffee shop to one of the gay standards in LA. Incredibly crowded most nights, I prefer to enjoy the venue for weekend brunch or early evening dinner with friends. Drink prices are a common complaint, though I've also been told the cocktails there are VERY good (I dont drink, so I cant weigh in on this). The lack of a dancefloor is unfortunate, as their DJs are often better than some of the local dance clubs' and their go-go boys (when they have them) are unimpressive and redundant to the space--with the amount of eye candy here, go-go boys are largely unnecesary.
